Desert Bread

Today was a day of baking and hiking for me. I had the day off, so I made several loaves of bread, and went up a trail in a local canyon.

I am in love with the saguaros everywhere. When the light hits them at the proper angle, the spines begin to glow. Here, the sun was just going behind the mountain when I caught the picture.

I also saw my first scorpion here today. I’ve seen them before in the tropics, but never in the States. I was flipping rocks to look for bugs and saw several of these, all less than an inch long, and very cute.

Before I went hiking, I baked three loaves of bread. It’s 1/3 whole wheat, very simple. Last week when I tried, I didn’t bake it through enough, so today I let it go a bit longer. Since the oven is new to me, I just have to get used to it.

Thank you. I’m just a bit odd when it comes to bugs. I think they’re all cute, especially the smaller ones, and even more so when they are all shiny like this one. It kept trying to hide under my shoe to get out of the sun. I think its a Superstition Mountain Scorpion.
